Tipay Caintic is a creative and fashion entrepreneur from the Philippines. She is based in Manila and frequently flies to her hometown Tacloban City in the province of Leyte for private clients and projects with For the Love of Leyte (FLOL), a non-profit organisation she co-founded in 2018 with fellow creatives and Leytenons.
FLOL’s goal is to be a catalyst in the economic growth of creative industries in the region through events and collaborative opportunities that support local artists, artisans, social entrepreneurs and local businesses.
Another Tacloban endeavour is Kamay ni Nanay (Mum’s Hands), a passion pet project in partnership with Craft MNL and Knitting Expedition established in July 2015. Kamay ni Nanay is a group of makers that enable rural, unemployable mothers and typhoon survivors to earn for their families through hand knitting & crocheting.
As a designer and a young entrepreneur in a developing country, it is Tipay’s goal to establish sustainable and fair trade practices that would encourage the refinement of skill and craft among makers. The designer is keen on using local material like pineapple based fabrics, and local weaves created by the hands and looms of women all over the country.
Her mainline namesake is a prêt-à-porter line for women. An independent, urban lady wears Tipay Caintic. A #TCspecies woman has a healthy appreciation for old school and classic silhouettes that work and she’s never uncomfortable. High and low brow culture seamlessly weaves in her lifestyle. The TC grrrl has a cheeky side to her, always with a sense of humour, ever colourful and progressive, never too serious.
Tipay Caintic has presented her collections in London Fashion Week, Manila Fashion Festival, Manila FAME: Biggest Lifestyle & Fashion Event in Asia, and other shows nationally.
She graduated in 2012 from SoFA Design Institute with a Fashion Design Scholarship. The designer is a Fine Arts Bachelor’s Degree holder majoring in Visual Communication from the University of the Philippines. She was a scholar and was schooled to be a scientist in the Philippine Science High School.
She has worked as an art director at an ad agency, a stylist for commercials, production designer and special effects make-up artist. With Tipay Caintic’s heterogeneous artistic background, her designs explore texture, art prints, innovative and unconventional material. Her designs are, without fail, always cheeky.
Bespoke work and made to measure pieces for both men and women is available upon request and caters to clients from Manila, Tacloban, Singapore, Qatar, London, New Zealand, New York and California.
